About SACA


The South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA), based in Cape Town, is the official Players’ Association and registered trade union representing all professional cricketers in South Africa. Governed by a player-elected Executive Committee, SACA actively advocates for player interests, holding representation on key Cricket South Africa (CSA) committees and participating globally as a member of the World Cricketers’ Association. Our mission is clear: to protect and promote the interests of South African professional cricketers and the game itself.

Our Players Executive Committee


SACA is a player-run organization dedicated to representing and protecting the interests of professional cricketers in South Africa. The Player Executive Committee is the committee that governs the association. The members of the executive are elected biannually by the players at the SACA AGM. The current committee comprises Khaya Zondo (President), Kyle Verreynne, Tumi Sekhukhune, Dominic Hendricks,Aviwe Mgjijima, Temba Bavuma, and Andrew Breetzke (Chief Executive Officer).

Cricket Agreements


SACA maintains a framework of agreements with Cricket South Africa and the Provinces, all designed to effectively serve and protect the interests of professional cricketers. These key agreements include a Recognition Agreement, which establishes SACA’s role as the representative body for players, a Commercial Agreement outlining the parameters for player image rights and related opportunities, the comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding governing employment terms, and the recently established SA20 Commercial Agreement, which specifically addresses player involvement and benefits within the SA20 structure. This network of agreements ensures a stable and equitable environment for players across all levels of professional cricket in South Africa.

SACA’s day-to-day operations are managed by a dedicated team based in Cape Town, South Africa. This team reports directly to the Players Executive Committee, a body elected annually by the players themselves, ensuring player representation at the highest level.

History of SACA

The South African Cricketers’ Association has a rich history of representing and protecting the rights of professional cricketers in South Africa. At the apex of SACA’s story is the 2003 ICC World Cup dispute. This was a pivotal moment for the association, demonstrating its ability to mobilise player support and negotiate on behalf of its members. While challenges may persist, SACA’s commitment to the welfare and development of cricketers remains unwavering.

Player Plus Programme


SACA Player Plus is SACA’s welfare and personal development programme for players. It provides each player with an opportunity to obtain SACA bursaries to study at university or other educational institution, engage in life skills programmes, job shadow and participate in dual career programmes while paying professional cricket.

South Africa’s only statistical Ranking of Professional Cricket Players

The SACA MVP is a ranking system that awards the Most Valuable Player in a season. It uses a sophisticated algorithm that measures points for runs scored, wickets taken, catches, and dismissals, with a point awarded for winning.  These points are accumulated to measure a player’s overall impact on the game, making it a reliable measure of individual excellence in South African cricket

Player Plus is SACA’s comprehensive programme supporting professional cricketers holistically. It goes beyond on-field performance, focusing on career development through education and counseling, as well as prioritizing health and well-being with access to medical and wellness resources.
